Perhaps

Maybe the sub-heading under the title of this blog should be changed to something similar. Or not...
I think it would be a positive change, image-wise. It hurts me to say it, but the word "Saginaw" is tarnished. People always assume the worse when I mention that I live in Saginaw. It's not a fair assumption, but it exists. That being said, emphasizing the Great Lakes, particularly the Saginaw Bay, is a good idea because it focuses on the area's importance as a port and economic hub.

Like I said, I couldn't figure out how he got elected. He just doesn't have the charisma, except when he's on stage and in the middle of a fired up speech.
Though to be honest, I just haven't seen him action enough.

My concern

is whether, and I hate to use this word...electable.
Perhaps, if he is the incumbent for the next two years (with a Granholm cabinet job) and the Obama Admin floods the state with Fed money and we turn the economy around, the point will be mute...
Still, he's not the most dynamic person.

He's a good guy.

I had the pleasure of sitting next to him at the Phil Hart Dinner last night and talking to him. He's also given me advice when I was running for office.
If he does run for Governor and win in 2010, it'll be because he was a State Senator for a district that represented the northern part of Oakland County. If a Democrat can win there, they can win anywhere.

Slezak may be a DINO

Click the link in my comment above and read what some Slezak defender has been saying. He lauds him for not "relying on government handouts" or "bilking the taxpayer," which sounds like language Saul or Bishop might throw around.
If Slezak wins, he's somebody we'll definitely have to keep tabs on.

Seems like a problem in Flint-area politics: Having people run as Democrats who are not truly Democrats. Its unfortunate that this has happened, and its unfortunate that even though we probably agree with the write-in on principle that he could end up helping the Republican win. But maybe that's what they need.

Deadlines

I find it pretty amazing that they allow these deadlines to occur mid-semester. It would make more sense to do it during the spring/summer, but I could see how it would benefit the faculty to have it now to give them leverage since a strike would lead to canceling classes. Hopefully it all gets worked out.
